Confined Space Rescue Standby

Your permit says "rescue team on site." We're that team.

OSHA 1910.146 requires a retrieval/rescue plan before the first worker enters a permit-required confined space. OCS fields an equipped rescue team - on location, pre-briefed, ready to enter if your crew doesn't come out.

How OCS rescue standby works

1

Site survey and space documentation

OCS inspects each permit-required confined space before coverage begins. We document entry points, atmospheric hazards, interior configuration, and anchor points for rescue equipment.

2

Written rescue pre-plan delivered

A written rescue procedure specific to each space is provided to your entry supervisor before entry begins. This satisfies the 1910.146(k) documentation requirement.

3

Rescue team on site at entry

OCS rescue personnel are staged at the entry point when your workers enter. Atmospheric monitoring continues throughout entry. Rescue equipment is rigged and ready.

4

Post-entry debrief and documentation

Entry records are documented and available for your OSHA compliance file. Any atmospheric readings outside acceptable ranges are flagged in writing.

Tyler Bruce - former GRDA confined space rescue technician.

Before starting OCS, Tyler served as a CMC-trained confined space rescue technician for the Grand River Dam Authority, a hydroelectric utility with industrial facilities requiring the same rescue capability OCS now provides commercially. That means his training and experience came from actual rescue standby work at a facility where confined spaces were a daily operational reality - not from a weekend course.

Tyler also works as a State Police officer and EMT, and holds swiftwater rescue technician certification. He has served as site safety manager on major industrial projects including Logan Aluminum, Orion Carbon Black, Mill Creek power plant, and ExxonMobil Chute Creek. His OSHA 510, OSHA 30, and OSHA 10 credentials support both the rescue and safety management sides of OCS work.
